Your customer comes to you with a challenge: they need to remove the carpet adhesive from a concrete floor before they resurface the floor. What is the right tool to get that done efficiently while minimizing the backbreaking work?
The Virginia Abrasives Tungsten Carbide Abrasive Disc (TCAD) is a great addition to your floor preparation arsenal of tools. The disc is two-sided and easily cleaned with a wire-brush for a long life and works in conjunction with a 175 rpm one-and-a-half horsepower floor buffer with a rubber backed sandpaper drive plate. This versatile prep tool is ideal for the removal of a variety of coatings from your concrete floor, whether the intent is to paint it or lay another material above it.
This video shows how the viewer how to use the disc with a floor buffer to remove a number of coatings. These include:
- Carpet padding and adhesive
- Tile adhesive
- Paint
- Epoxy
The recommended safety gear is outlined, which includes:
- Hearing Protection
- Safety Glasses
- Dust Mask
- Gloves
A demonstration of attaching the TCAD to the floor bluffer with the rubber-backed sandpaper drive plate beneath it is a precursor to the actual usage of the disc. Tips and tricks for preserving the TCAD and accelerating the jobs are included in the instruction.
For very thin coatings like paint and adhesives, it is recommended that you first mist the floor with water, which will reduce heat build up and help maintain an effective stripping action. For stickier coatings, the video demonstrates the use of playsand as a means to accelerate the process and prevent the disc from getting coated with the sticky material allowing the removal process to proceed more efficiently.
Clean up is quick and easy using a little water and a wire brush directly on the disc.
